About the Author

Mark Ferguson is Program Director of the Junior Year in Munich – the oldest U.S college-sponsored study abroad  program in Germany – and Senior Lecturer in German at Wayne State University, Detroit MI. He holds a Ph.D. in German from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

 

His interest in education abroad began when he participated in the American Field Service program to Thailand while in high school. Throughout his college career – both undergraduate and graduate – he gained extensive international experience by living, studying, working and teaching in Europe (Paris, Berlin, Mainz, Bonn, Duisburg, Essen).

 

Before coming to Wayne State University in 1991, he held positions as lecturer in German literature at the University of Essen in Germany and at Bates College in Maine. Since his appointment as Program Director of the Junior Year in Munich in 1995, he has helped many students build upon their study abroad experience to find jobs and start interesting, meaningful and well-paying careers.
